Hello May, the month of sunshine, blooming flowers,

and endless possibilities.

• In May, we recognize National Mental Health Month, Haitian Heritage Month and Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month.
• May Day, a traditional spring festival in many cultures, is celebrated on May 1.
• Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican celebration, is observed on May 5.
• May 6 is World Asthma Day.
• National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day falls on May 8.
• We honor and celebrate our mothers (and all other female caregivers) on Mother's Day, May 11.
• May 5-9 is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. National Teacher Day falls on May 6. Let's give all of the CECD staff a big hand for all that they do to inspire, motivate and eduate our next generation!!!
• Haitian Flag Day is observed on May 18; this is a major patriotic day in Haiti.
• Easter, a day that celebrates renewal and rebirth, falls on April 20.
• April 22 is Earth Day, a day to learn about taking care of the planet.
• Please participate in all meetings and workshops. Refer to your site's calendar for specific dates.
• Do your best to read aloud to your child every day.
• Parent volunteers are needed. Please speak to your Family Assistant for more information.
• Become familiar with the languages of the day:
• Monday: English
• Tuesday: Spanish
• Wednesday: Urdu
• Thursday: French
• Friday: Swahili
• The Creative Curriculum encourages learning by doing. The curriculum themes for April are"Rocks"for the 2-year olds and"Gardening"for the 3s and 4s.

• Please make sure your child has a clean change of winter clothing available in his/her cubby.
• Please label your child’s clothing (coats, jackets, hoodies and sweaters…even shoes). Talk to your child about the label and explain that other children may have the same type of clothing. Help us minimize clothing going home with the wrong child. Writing on the size tag with a permanent marker is the easiest and most inexpensive way of labeling your child’s clothing.
  
• Please be on time for arrival (8:15 AM). Breakfast is served from 8:15 AM - 8:45 AM and we don't want your child to miss out!!!
• Dismissal time is 3:15 PM - 3:30 PM daily, and 12:15 PM - 12:30 PM on May 30.
• Parent-Teacher Conferneces will be held in June. Don't forget to schedule yours!!!
