• October is "Head start Awareness Month." CECD is cerebrating 60 years of interrupted service to the Hollis and Jamaica communities.
• October 2 is "National Custodians' Appreciation Day," a day to recognize he hardworking people who keep our buildings clean and safe.
• We place a special emphasis on fire safety in October, "Fire Prevention Month."
• October 5 is "Child Health Day," a day to promote children's good health.
• October 10 is "World Mental Health Day," a global observance that highlights mental health as a universal human right and calls for action to ensure everyone can access quality care. 
• October 24th is "Make a Difference Day," a day that emphasizes community service and volunteering.
• The day of tricks or treats, "Halloween," is celebrated on October 31.
• The Creative Curriculum themes for October are "Containers" for the 2-year-olds and "Trees" for the 3s and 4s. The CECD theme for all children is "Fall."
• CECD Head Start offers free consultation services for Health, Mental Health and Nutrition concerns, for both you, your child or your family. Please speak to your Family Assistant for more information or to schedule an appointment.
• Become an active parent/guardian/caregiver!!! Get involved in all of the meetings, trainings and activities that CECD Head Start has to offer. Check your site calendar for specific meetings, activities and events.
• Stay in touch with your Family Assistant. and ask about becoming a classroom volunteer.

 Announcements/Dates to Remember

• The monthly Home-Based Socialization Visits will take place at the Sutphin site on October 2, October 16 and October 30 at 10:00 AM.
• Classroom Elections will take place from October 6 to October 8. All parents must take part in the election for your child's class. Please check your site calendar for the exact dates and times.
• In observance of Columbus Day, school will be closed on October 12.
• The Virtual Male Involvement Group Orientation will take place on October 16 at 10:00 AM.
• The Virtual Women's Empowerment Orientation will take place on October 22 at 10:00 AM.

• Children will be dismissed at 12:30 PM on October 30.
  
• Please make sure your child has a full set of extra clothes at all time (clothes that are appropriate for the cooler weather).
• Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held in December.

Arrival time is 8:15 AM. Dismissal time is 3:15-3:30 PM.
